Configure Outlook 2007 to use RPC over HTTP ... in the AG domain

You can configure your Email account in Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 to connect to the College's Exchange Server over the Internet without a VPN connection (Cisco Virtual Private Network). This feature is known as a "RPC over HTTP " connection. The RPC stands for "remote procedure call."

Note: When using RPC over HTTP you will always need to enter your username and password when you open Outlook and you will always need to put AG\ in front of the username. Ex: AG\bnr1

Note: Setting up Outlook to use RPC over HTTP is recommended in these situations:

  • Laptop machines that are frequently used out of the office and have access to a high speed Internet connection for email.
Note: when using slower speed connections, we recommend using Outlook Web Access.
  • For both desktop and laptop machines in Offices that are NOT part of the PSU network.
Note: County extension offices are on the PSU network. Note: you can still use VPN after Outlook is configured with an RPC over HTTP connection. Outlook will function in either case.

  2. Click Start and then Control Panel.
