Remove Symantec / Norton AntiVirus and LiveUpdate

Users planning to update their PSU Site License Symantec AntiVirus software Corporate Edition software should uninstall the previous version from their Windows computer prior to installing the newest version of Symantec AntiVirus. You will also uninstall the LiveUpdate software that downloads and installs the virus update files.

Note: College Enterprise (EN) computers with Symantec Endpoint Protection installed will not be able to follow these steps due to security concerns.

This procedure will remove all Symantec products, not just the AntiVirus software.

If you have purchased a full version of Symantec's System Works, you may keep this program. It includes AntiVirus as well as system monitoring utilities.

Note: Prior to removing your current version of Symantec or Norton AntiVirus software, you should have downloaded the newest version from the PSU's ITS Server. You should NOT use your computer on the network until SAV is reinstalled.

Note: These steps are written for Penn State College of Ag Science computers with Windows XP Professional.
