Install QuickTime for Windows using the Standalone Installer


 

Apple's QuickTime software allows your Enterprise computers to view graphics, videos, on-line video streams (ex: Candidate Interviews in the College) , and more. These steps are written for machines with Windows XP.

 

Note: As of June 9, 2008 the current version of QuickTime is 7.5. Follow these steps to download the Standalone installer and install the newer version.

 

Note: To determine your version of QuickTime, click Start, All Programs, the QuickTime folder, and then QuickTime Player. From the Help menu choose About QuickTime Player.

 

Install Quicktime
Configure QuickTime and Restart

  Install QuickTime

  1. Close all open applications (you can keep your browser window that you are reading this open).
  2. Click this link: QuickTime 7.5 for Windows XP
  3. Click Save. Click the Desktop button on the left.
  4. Click Save.

    NOTE: Wait while the QuickTimeInstaller.exe file is downloaded. If you receive a warning saying that the "site might require the following ActiveX control: 'QuickTime' ...", ignore this message.

  5. If you see the Download Complete window, click Close. Close your browser window.
    If you don't see any Download Complete window, when the download finishes, close your browser window.
  6. From the desktop, double click on QuickTime75Installer.exe.
  7. Click Run. Wait for the installer to start.
  8. Click Next. Go through the remaining steps of the installer. Accept all defaults. (If asked, you should install the Apple Software Update software).
  9. Click Finish when done.
  10. If asked to upgrade, click No Thanks!.

Configure QuickTime and Restart

  1. After the installer finishes, on the desktop, Double Click on the QuickTime Player shortcut.
  2. From the Edit menu choose Preferences then select QuickTime Preferences.
  3. Click the Advanced tab.
  4. In the Tray Icon section, UN-check the Install QuickTime icon in system tray check box. Click OK.
  5. Close the QuickTime Player.
  6. The installer placed QuickTime shortcuts on your Desktop and in your Quick Launch toolbar. You may delete these if desired.
  7. Restart the computer.
  8. You should now be able to use QuickTime.
