Create a Dial-up Connection for an EN Notebook
Follow these steps to create dial-up connections to your local ISP or to a Penn State campus. The various dial-up connections allow you to connect to the Internet from a variety of locations throughout the state.

Create a Dial-up Connection for the Penn State Travel Calling Card

Add Dial-up Connection

Click Start, then My Network Places.

On left side, click View Network Connections.

Click Create a new connection.

Click Next at the Welcome dialog box.

Make sure the radio button is next to Connect to the Internet. Click Next.

Choose "Set up my connection manually" and click Next.

Make sure the radio button is next to Connect using a dial-up modem. Click Next.

In ISP Name, enter your ISP name and Click Next.

In Phone number, enter the phone number your ISP gave you and Click Next.

Click Next.

Enter User name and Password info.

Uncheck "Make this the default Internet Connection" and Turn on "Internet Connection Firewall for this connection." Click Next.

Check Add a shortcut to desktop if desired.

Click Finish.

Add Dialing Properties

Double-click on your connection or from the Start Menu, go to Connection to: and select the name of your connection. A Connect to the ISP Window should appear.

Click Properties.

Put a checkmark in Use Dialing Rules. Click the Dialing Rules button. Edit the "My Location" to be the User's Local connect. Click Edit.

Change My Location to Local.

Change Area Code to their area code. Click OK. Click Apply. Click New. In Location Name, enter 8. In Area Code, enter 000 as the area code.

In access outside line for LOCAL, enter 8,Click Apply. Click OK. Click Apply. Click New.

In Location Name, enter 9. In Area Code, enter 000 as the area code. In access outside line for LOCAL, enter 9,

Click Apply. Click OK. Click Apply.

Select the LOCAL location.

Click Apply. Click OK. Click OK.
Test Connection

If connected to a phone line, click Dial.
