About Adobe Connect Pro

What is Adobe Connect Pro?

Adobe Connect (formerly Breeze) is a Web-based collaboration tool that facilitates synchronous interactions among individuals and groups from the desktop. Adobe Connect is a service provided and supported by Penn State ITS. For more detailed information, see their web site - Adobe Connect Community.

Adobe Connect operates on the concept of "meeting rooms." A room is simply a unique space on the Adobe Connect server where meeting participants interact. A meeting room has a unique Web address and is assigned a "host" (the instructor). Once assigned, the host has complete control of the meeting room. Rooms can exist indefinitely and can be customized according to the individual needs of the host or meeting.

Adobe Connect has the capability of using audio and video if members of the meeting have a headset and webcam. Of course, bandwidth is still the limiting factor for using these additional technologies. Penn State's phone bridge can also be used for the audio portion.

Who can use Adobe Connect?

Any Penn State employee can log into Adobe Connect with their access account user ID and password.

Non-PSU participants must obtain a Friends of Penn State Account. More information and an account form can be found at https://fps.psu.edu/. Meeting participants with FPS accounts will be identified in the Attendee Pod list with an asterisks (*) beside their name. This does not limit access to Penn State Adobe Connect meetings in any way. Anyone in the world may obtain a Friends of Penn State account and attend a Penn State Adobe Connect meeting.

Who can create Adobe Connect meetings?

The University was granted a special license to create an unlimited number of meeting rooms and an unlimited number of concurrent participants. As part of the license agreement, only DESIGNATED INDIVIDUALS (Adobe Connect Meeting Creators) can create meeting rooms. Each college was granted a number of licenses for meeting room creators. Our college received enough licenses to distribute one individual in each dept, unit and county. To find your Adobe Connect Meeting Creator, please contact IT Computer Support.

Adobe Connect Equipment and Software Add-ins

A Web camera and/or microphone are needed.

If you will be broadcasting video and/or voice during an Adobe Connect meeting you will need a Web camera, microphone, and headset. A headset with a built-in microphone is recommended to reduce audio echo and feedback. Adobe suggests that any camera/microphone that works with Flashplayer will work adequately with Adobe Connect -- Penn State ITS recommends a camera with a USB connector or a Firewire connector and a headset with a USB connector rather than a headphone plug connector.

The following equipment has been tested successfully with Adobe Connect at Penn State and is available through the Penn State Computer Store.

Software Add-Ins:

  • Flash Player: You will need the most recent version of Flash Player. Adobe Flash Player is standard in most browsers. You can find out which version of Flash Player you have at the Test Macromedia Web Players page.
  • FlashPaper: FlashPaper (downloadable, stand alone application for Windows machines only) allows you to share any document in meetings by converting it into Flash (SWF file) format.
  • Also see ITS' Adobe Connect Community section on Requirements.

Installation of Flash Player, Adobe Connect plug-ins, and FlashPaper may not be automatic depending on the configuration of your computer. You may need to follow up the download by installing the files on your own individual computer, following whatever technical guidelines have been set for you in your individual situation and using your own technical support resources.

To read more about this, refer to the Adobe Connect Meeting Web Site.
