Sometimes
it is necessary to put a PowerPoint presentation on the web so
others can have access to the slides and the notes information.
This How To explains how to do this.
It is written specifically
for the county extension offices since their web pages use a Dreamweaver
template and must follow certain guidelines.
It was written using
PowerPoint 2002 and Dreamweaver 4.
Publish
the PowerPoint presentation
- Open the PowerPoint
presentation you want to convert to HTML.
- Put the finishing
touches on the slides and notes area.
- From the File menu
choose Save as Web Page.
- Click Publish in
the center of the dialog box.
- In the Publish as
Web page dialog box make the following selections:
- Complete Presentation
- Display Speaker
Notes
- Click Web Options.
- Click the Pictures
tab.
- From the drop-down
list, choose 640X480.
- Click OK.
- Under Browser Support,
select the All browsers listed above.
- Under Publish a
copy as, click Browse.
- In the Publish As
dialog box, navigate to the appropriate folder where you want
the HTML files to be saved.
- You should save
these files in your county web folder, in the proper directory.
- Change the file
name if appropriate.
- Click OK to accept
the location.
- Click Publish to
convert the presentation to HTML.
- Once published,
you will notice two new files/folders.
- One will be
the file you created in step 13.
- The other will
be a folder containing all the needed parts for the PowerPoint
presentation to be viewed via the web.
- You are now ready
to link this file from another webpage and upload all the files.

Link
to the PowerPoint Presentation files
Now that you have
published the PowerPoint presentation you need to link to the
files you created in the above section.
- Using your counties
template, create a web page.
- Enter the title/text
for the presentation.
- Select this title
text and link to the HTML file created in step 16 in the above
section.
- Save your document
in the appropriate folder.
- Spell check your
document.
- Test the links to
make sure they work.
- If
necessary, link this newly created page to another page on your
website.
- Now you are ready
to upload the pages.

Upload
the PowerPoint presentation and files
Now that you have
created the page that links to the PowerPoint presentation you
are ready to upload this page and the PowerPoint files.
- Open your Site Manager
and connect to the remote server.
- On the right side,
locate the HTML page you created in step 4 immediately above.
- Locate the .html
file you created in the first section of the this How To.
- Locate the folder
(with a similar name as the .html file) which contains all the
pieces of the PowerPoint presentation.
- Select all 3 of
these files.
- You can Shift
Click or Control Click to select all 3 at the same time.
- If you had to create
another page in step 7 above, select this
file also.
- Upload these files
to the server.
- Open Internet Explorer
and test these pages to make sure they work and to make sure
they look OK.
