A wall of gray words and numbers — is that what comes to mind when you think of documents you've put together? Using graphics to clarify text, explain numbers, or make your whole document more compelling is easy once you know how to work with them.



How to Insert a Graphic from CipArt Gallery

 
  1. From the Insert menu, choose Picture ...ClipArt.
  2. ClipArt Gallery will open.
    • In Office 2003/2002, a task pane will open to the right.
  3. Enter your search criteria.
  4. Select appropriate ClipArt.
  5. Click on graphic to Insert.
  6. If you need to resize, see below.
How to Insert a Graphic from File
 
  1. From the Insert menu, choose Picture...From File.
  2. From the Open Dialog Box, navigate to where your picture is stored. Select your picture.
  3. Click Insert.
How to Resize a Graphic or Photo
 
  1. Click on your graphic. You should see little squares or handles appear around your graphic.
  2. From the lower right-hand or left-hand handles, click and drag up or down to resize the graphic to the size you need.
    • To make sure you DON'T DISTORT your graphic - DO NOT use any middle handle.
How to Crop a Graphic or Photo
  1. Click on your graphic. You should see little squares or handles appear around your graphic.
  2. If you don't see your Picture Toolbar, from the View menu, choose Toolbars...Picture
  3. On your Picture Toolbar, select the crop tool.
  4. Place this crop tool over one of the handles on the graphic or photo and drag to crop.
    • Use the middle handle to crop the side of the photo or graphic.
    • Use the corner handles to proportionately crop the photo or graphic.
  5. When you are finished making the cropping changes, click on the crop tool again to turn it off.
 
How to Text Wrap a Graphic
  1. Click on your graphic. You should see little squares or handles appear around your graphic.
  2. If you don't see your Picture Toolbar, from the View menu, choose Toolbars...Picture.
  3. On your Picture Toolbar, select the Text Wrap Option (dog in square).
  4. Select the appropriate text wrap option.
  5. You can now move your graphic within the text.
