Software installers may ask you to disable temporarily your AntiVirus and Spyware Prevention programs. These steps will walk you through turning off the recommended software in use in the College of Ag Sciences.

These steps are written for computers with Windows XP Professional.


Disable Symantec AntiVirus
Disable Spybot
Disable SpywareBlaster
Enable SAV and Spyware Software

Disable Symantec AntiVirus

  1. Right Click on the Symantec AntiVirus Client icon ( see below, looks like a Yellow Shield) in the lower right corner of the screen and then Left Click on the words Enable Auto-Protect .

    NOTE: Symantec is now temporarily disabled.

Disable Spybot
  1. Open Spybot.
    If you have a shortcut on your desktop, double click it.
    or
    Click Start, then All Programs, then Spybot - Search & Destroy and then Spybot - Search & Destroy.
  2. On the left side, click Immunize.

    NOTE: You will see 2 items that need turned off. The 1st item is the "bad products" that are being blocked. The 2nd item is the Blocker Helper.

  3. At the top of the screen, click the Undo button. This will allow all bad products again.
  4. In the Browser Helper section, un-check the Enable permanent blocking of bad addresses in Internet Explorer box.
  5. From the File menu choose Exit.

    NOTE: Spybot is now temporarily disabled.

Disable SpywareBlaster

  1. Open SpywareBlaster.
    If you have a shortcut on your desktop, double click it.
    Or
    Click Start, then All Programs, then SpywareBlaster and then SpywareBlaster.

    NOTE: There is 1 item that needs turned off.

  2. Under Quick Tasks at the bottom of the screen, click Disable All Protection.
  3. Click the "X" in the upper right corner to Exit.


    NOTE: SpywareBlaster is now temporarily disabled.


    YOU SHOULD NOW BE ABLE TO INSTALL YOUR SOFTWARE!

Enable SAV and Spyware Software

NOTE: Once the software is installed, you should enable (turn back on) the protection programs

  1. Enable Symantec.

    Right Click on the Symantec AntiVirus Client icon in the lower right corner of the screen and then Left Click on the words Enable Auto-Protect. The
    Enable AutoProtect choice should now be checked.


  2. Enable Spybot.

    Open Spybot. On the left side, click Immunize
    . At the top of the screen, click the Immunize button. Then, place a check the Enable permanent blocking of bad addresses in Internet Explorer box. Exit Spybot.

  3. Enable SpywareBlaster.

    Open SpywareBlaster. Under Quick Tasks click Enable All Protection
    . Exit SpywareBlaster.
