Symantec
AntiVirus can protect your computer from destructive programs
known as viruses and Trojan horses, and can protect against malicious
Active X and Java applets. Version 10.1 also provides Spyware
prevention and removal capabilities. Because of a contract
between Penn State and Symantec, Symantec AntiVirus software is
available at no cost to
Penn State students, faculty, and staff.
Certain computers at University Park are managed by
a Symantec Antivirus server. To see if you have a "managed"
client, open the Symantec AntiVirus window on your computer. In
the General Information section of the first screen, do you have
anything listed next to Parent Server? If you do, then your machine
is being managed. You should not follow these steps.
If you
don't see anything in the Parent Server line and the Program version
is less than 10.1.7.7000, at your earliest convenience, please
follow these steps to update your SAV client software. An office
may choose to download these Installers once and pass them around
as well.
NOTE:
These steps are written for College Enterprise computers using
Windows XP Professional. If you have a machine with Windows 98,
Windows ME, or Windows 2000 (less than Service Pack 4), you must
install the SAV
version 9.0x software.
Download
SAV 10.1 Installer
The Symantec
AntiVirus Software is available for download from ITS Server.
- Go to https://downloads.its.psu.edu/download.cgi?os_type=Windows&prod=symantec
Note: If you have a College Enterprise machine, and you
logon to the College's AG domain when you start the computer,
and
you are a Penn State Employee, be
reminded that you have 2 user accounts. One for Penn
State and one for the College of Ag Sciences. Both accounts
will have the same User name (or Userid). They should use the
same password as well, but that may not always be the case.
In Step 2, you are going to a Penn State resource, you need
to login with your Penn State credentials.
Note: If you are a County Paid Extension employee, you
may not have a Penn State Access Account. If that's the case,
another person in the office will need to download the software
for you.
Tip:
To change your passwords on both the PSU and AG system, see
this How
To.
If you just want to verify your PSU password,
you can use this ITS page:
https://clc.its.psu.edu/users/VerifyPassword.aspx
- Enter your
Penn State Userid and Password, click Login.
Note:
In the Userid
field, you enter only the User Name (example:
vcv1). Do not enter it as ag\vcv1.
- Scroll
down and select the download link next to Windows XP/2000(SP4)
(32-bit) Only. Example: Version: 10.1.7
- If asked
to run or save this file, click Save.
- Choose
your Desktop as the save in location for the SAV1017win32.exe
file. Click Save.
- Wait for
the download to complete. If the file download window remains
open, click CLOSE.
Note: An office may choose to download
this file on one machine then burn the installer to a
CD or copy the installer to a USB drive. The CD or USB drive
may then be passed around. You should have one item at this
point, the SAV1017win32.exe installer file.
